Open position for a student research assistant at the Institute of Social Anthropology

The Institute of Social Anthropology at the University of Basel invites applications for a student research assistant position (10h/week), starting 1 September 2026. The position is initially limited to one semester.

Your responsibilities

The position involves tasks within the field of social anthropology, spanning topics such as intimacy, mobility, migration, gender, belonging, kinship, sexuality, security, care and humanitarianism:

  • Organisational support for the planning and implementation of the Institute’s Public Anthropology activities
  • Assistance with the preparation of courses and teaching materials
  • Support with our Social Media Presence
  • Contribution to publication, research and teaching projects

Your profile

Applicants should be in the advanced stages of their bachelor’s or at the beginning of their master’s programme in Social Anthropology, and comfortable working independently. We expect a genuine interest in ethnographic methods and questions of anthropological knowledge production, basic German skills, reliability and organisational ability.
