Lenticular Politics
In my recent book The Diasporic Condition, based on ethnographic work with Lebanese immigrants across the world, I argue that a chief characteristic of the diasporic life world is what I refer to as its lenticularity. I argue that this lenticularity is a characteristic a mode of inhabiting a multiplicity of locations simultaneously. In this presentation I want to explore some of the political ramifications of lenticularity. I highlight the significance of seeing the world as an entanglement of a multiplicity of realities and how it affects our conceptions of conflicts and contradictory political location.
