New SNF Project (2020-2022)

Life in the West African Savannah since the 1970s: Hegemony and autonomy

The Swiss National Science Foundation has approved a research project under the lead of Prof. Till Förster, with Dr Lucy Koechlin as principal investigator.  "Life in the West African Savannah since the 1970s: Hegemony and autonomy" (2020-2022) will explore the social and political transformations of Côte d'Ivoire, adopting a long-term perspective. Building on Prof. Förster's research findings from the last decades, differing forms of social organisation and their relationship to political power will be documented and conceptualised. The project is complemented by a second, separately funded component documenting the visual dimension of these transformations on the basis of the applicant's photographic archive collected since 1979.
