Library & Infrastructure

Library

The library of the Museum der Kulturen Basel and of the Institute of Social Anthropology is the largest and oldest library specialised in Social and Cultural Anthropology in Switzerland (est. 1901).
With over 100’000 publications, including around 200 journals, it offers an extensive collection of anthropological literature with a broad geographic and thematic range. The library is open to the public and free of charge. The books and journals have to be ordered online via IDS Basel/Bern and can then be picked up at the library. The publications in the reading room and manuscripts are not on loan. Loans of all other publications can be extended online via your user account unless they are reserved by other users.

The library's reading rooms and workstations may be used during the opening hours.
