Serena Dankwa and Patricia Purtschert conducted an interview with the renowned African feminist Oyeronke Oyewumi for the project The many futures of gender: Oral histories of feminist theory.
Oyeronke Oyewumi is professor emerita of Sociology at Stony Brook University. She completed her bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Ibadan and completed her PhD in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. Her areas of interest include postcolonial theory, feminist theory and gender epistemologies arising from African contexts. Her work focuses on developing African theories of power, gender and studying the implications of Western theories and concepts on non-western societies.
