Michelle Engeler is a social anthropologist, lecturer, and research associate at the Department of Social Sciences, University of Basel.

She teaches at both Master's and doctoral level, with a particular focus on qualitative and ethnographic methods, research design, and academic writing. Alongside her teaching, she contributes to doctoral education and academic programme development at the Graduate School of Social Sciences (G3S).

Her research combines methodological innovation with ethnographic inquiry into mobility and immobility, postmigration, kinship, and childhood and youth in transnational contexts. Based on long-term ethnographic research in Switzerland and West Africa, she examines how belonging, care, and social relations are negotiated across places and generations. More recently, she has developed projects on postmigrant urban life, children's everyday experiences, and atmospheric approaches to ethnography.

Across both research and teaching, Michelle Engeler is particularly interested in developing collaborative and innovative approaches to ethnographic research and higher education, creating spaces where research, teaching, and public engagement intersect.
